Chapter 3.2: Litening Section 2 - Conversation

In this part of the test, you'll hear a talk, that is one person speaking. This talk is usually on an everyday, general topic, and the speaker is talking to give other people information. For example, it may be an introductory talk to members of a library, or someone talking about an organization they represent. But as an IELTS candidate, why are you listening? Well, like Section 1, you are being tested on your ability to listen for specific factual information and in this section, you'll have to listen and answer ten questions, ...but only listening once, of course!

Table Completion

How to do table completion tasks:

Before you listen:

  • Step 1: Check the instructions - how many words can you write?
  • Step 2: Read the table/flowchart to find out what information is shown.

While you listen:

  • Step 4: Use the given information to help you follow the speaker(s).
  • Step 5: Write each answer and check that they fit.
Don't forget, you have to be careful about spelling and this includes not putting a letter 's' at the end of words that don't need them, or leaving out the letter 's' when the words do need them.
